Traffic Ticket in Collections with GC Services
If you have a failure to appear in court in Los Angeles County, your ticket will be sent to GC Services, a collections agency.
It’s a good starting point to be cautious of what GC Services tells you, for example:
- that you can’t get a court date and see the judge anymore
- that you have no other option but to pay them
- that putting you on a payment plan will solve your problems
None of the above is true, in fact, the opposite is true.
My name is Attorney Paul Denni, and I’ve been fighting GC Services for several years now, dealing almost exclusively with traffic tickets on behalf of my clients.
In most cases I can clear your driver’s license hold and fight your traffic ticket for much less than what GC Services wants from you, and in a manner that will protect your DMV record and criminal record.

Traffic Ticket in Collections Causes Greater Problems
Protect Your Criminal Record
Traffic tickets are usually filed as infractions, meaning they can only be punished by paying a fine and not by incarceration. However, when you fail to appear on a traffic ticket and are charged with VC 40508 Failure to Appear, this will go on your criminal record as a misdemeanor if you pay the collections agency.
On the contrary, I can get the failure to appear reduced to an infraction by handling it in traffic court so it stays off of your criminal record.
Protect Your DMV Record
If you pay GC Services and your ticket was a moving violation, you’ll get one or more points on your DMV record which will make your insurance rates go up.
If I fight your ticket in court, we can keep the point off of your record in one of three ways:
- get the case dismissed (always the best outcome)
- get the case amended to a non moving violation (prevents a point from going on your record)
- get you traffic school (no traffic school available when you pay GC Services)
Keep Your Fines Low
Many tickets can be dismissed in court for a $25 dismissal fee if they are a correctable offense such as:
- no insurance
- no registration
- window tint
- no license plates
If you pay the GC Services Collections agency, however, you could pay as much as $800 for a no insurance ticket.
