Driving Without a License Ticket California – Now What?

Driving Without a License Ticket California – Consequences
If a VC 12500 offense is charged as an infraction, the consequences can only result in fines. The base fine for driving without a license in California is $75, plus a “penalty assessment” which is a State tax multiplier of roughly 3-4 times the base amount.
If you are charged with VC 12500 as a misdemeanor, you can get sentenced to up to six months in jail, with a base fine of $100 plus the “penalty assessment”.
In most cases, VC 12500 is charged as a misdemeanor if you were driving without a license and you NEVER had a license, and it’s charged as an infraction if you once had a valid California license, but you were driving once it has expired.
Whether VC 12500 is charged as a misdemeanor or an infraction, the good news is a conviction would not result in any points being placed on your DMV record. VC 12500 is different from VC 14601.1, which would result in two points on your DMV record.
Driving Without a License Ticket California – Can an Attorney Help?
Attorney Paul Denni is a traffic defense attorney and has handled numerous VC 12500 charges in court. Sometimes these tickets are issued erroneously, such as when you had a valid out of State driver’s license, or a foreign driver’s license.
Often, even when these are charged as a misdemeanor, Mr. Denni can get the charge knocked down to an infraction or dismissed altogether. Case results vary, depending on the specific situation.
